Convertible Dress

Guide to buying a convertible dress

When purchasing the dress, you need to consider some factors to make the right choice. Some of the factors to consider include:

  • Fabric: Just like when buying any other dress, you need to consider the quality of the material. As rule of thumb, buy fabric that is of high quality. This calls for you to buy it from a reputable store.
  • Length: Obviously, you need to consider the length of the outfit. How tall is it? The choice that you should go for depends on your size. To avoid looking out of part, take your time to research and find one that is perfect for your size.
  • Color: This is another important factor to consider. Just like length, the color of the dress depends on your preferences. It also depends on the occasion that you are attending. If participating in a wedding, you should check on the theme to ensure that you aren’t the odd one out.

Making your dress

Most of the good quality convertible dresses come at a price. The cool thing is that you can reduce the cost by making the dress on your own. Making the dress also gives you the freedom of playing around with style. To tailor the dress, you need to buy the right material. You should buy a square material for the skirt. This means that if you are looking for a 70″ wide material, go for one that is 70″ long.

If you have the skills, tailor the dress on your own or take it to a professional tailor if you have never made a dress before. When customizing the outfit, you should take note of the straps. As rule of thumb ensure that they overlap in the middle. It’s difficult to tell the size that you should go for but to avoid surprises, plan for 5 inches of overlap at the seam.

When it comes to the waistband, you have to sew it into a ring. You should sew it in such a way that it lands behind one of the straps. Place it under your arm, but the strap should hide it.
